Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “Just as I was getting everything together for the night of the century (well, it was THE night of the century to me and I sure hoped it would be for your Dad too, but as I am fond of saying, the best is yet to come!), the phone rang. It was my best friend Georgia. She was all in a dither because this cute girl at work asked her out for a drink, but she didn’t know if it was a date, or just as friends or what. She was running that pretty mouth of hers a mile a minute and I could hardly keep up with her. I finally told her to slow down and tell me everything. She was a mess! I figured if a person, regardless of their gender, asked another person on for a drink on Valentine’s night, that it had to be romantic. So I asked her if the girl from work realized it was Valentine’s Day. She assured me she was aware, they had has Valentine’s festivities all day at work. So that was the end of that! I deemed it a date and hung up quickly! Luckily, all I needed were candles, and the dishes, of course. Back then, I had only mismatched things. But I picked the prettiest plates and bowls that I had without chips. And, I was able to get us a set of matching, leaded crystal champagne flutes, just like the ones that I bought for Dottie and Mabel. ”
