Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “I’m not going to lie to you, the sound of that little folding alarm clock sent me in to a bit of tail spin. As a matter of fact, I felt like a dog chasing its tale! I was so nervous! It would be the first time your Dad ever saw my place, and that alone had me shaking like a leaf! I was worried he would think my place was too, too, too something! Why this sudden surge of nerves? My only guess is that it was love … I hadn’t felt that nervous and shaken since I could remember! I sprayed some breath freshener in my mouth and I was off. I had picked out a very lovely corsage for your Dad to wear. I figured he probably would have something pretty to change into after his shift. As a matter of fact, I took my time getting there, since I wanted to give your Dad a chance to change and freshen up a bit. The diner had a distinct aroma, like the smell of perpetual fried food. It was the kind of scent that permeated your clothes, your hair, everything. I remember your persnickety Dad always complained of that smell. I knew he would be self – conscious about looking and smelling just right for our first date. As I took a little detour through my favorite part of town, I hoped that maybe the Boss Lady gave your Dad a few extra minutes to get ready.”
