Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “I didn’t have them engraved though, that seemed too, personal for a first date. Thankfully, I was the same neatnik then that I am now, and my tiny little efficiency was always very clean and tidy. I had a ritual of cleaning that I swear would have put Martha Stewart to shame! And, I did it all on a shoe string budget. Georgia lived sweet little bungalow her parents rented for her. It was about eight blocks from my place. I didn’t have a vacuum cleaner. I couldn’t afford one! But Georgia was always so sweet to lend me hers. She was really busy with school and work, and so I any time I wanted to vacuum, which was about three times a week, I would walk the eight blocks to Georgia’s. I had to let myself in with the key she kept under the geranium pot. And, this is the funniest part of all, I had to carry the damn vacuum the eight blocks back to my place! Crazy, huh? But I couldn’t complain. And the whole day came together in such a wonderful way.” I couldn’t have been happier with my progress. I put some on my favorite Chet Baker compilation called, The Touch of Your Lips, and then set about finishing up everything I could before going to get your Dad from the diner. It was exactly a quarter of ten and my little folding travel alarm clock reminded me it was time.”
