Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “As I walked home, my heart was light again. All of the thoughts of your grandma and grandpa faded with the sunlight, and I was on to the oh – so important task of making this, not only our very first date, but our very first date, AND, Valentine’s together very, very special. I had a light skip in my step as I walked and I whistled that sweet little tune I heard Mabel singing to Dottie. It felt like a perfect moment filled with anticipation and sheer joy. Your Dad wasn’t supposed to get off of work until around 10:00 that night, so I still had a good two or three hours to get ready. I tossed the salad and seasoned the delectable cut of steak I bought. I covered the potatoes in foil and put them in to bake and took a really quick shower. I got dressed and did my make – up very, very quickly, since I didn’t mind him “catching” me set the table, but I would have seriously minded him seeing me in disarray! Once I had on my prettiest little black dress and highest heels, with pearls of course, I did my hair in a classic french roll, secured by two of the prettiest little black lacquered chopsticks, with rhinestones, you ever saw. My pearl earrings were drop earrings and they framed my face heat – shaped face perfectly. Thankfully, I was the big candle person then that I am now.”
