Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “With the steak that I bought, and the lobster, well, it was going to turn out to be a very, very elegant, albeit very late, meal. I could hardly believe not only my good fortune, at meeting Dottie and Mabel, and having the prime opportunity to earn some quick cash, but at your Dad’s good fortune at being able to buy a couple of fresh – caught lobsters at cost! He said we as able to purchase them with the tip money he made in the last hour of his shift alone! What a great turn of events for a budding young couple, just about to discover each other. I was giddy with excitement. It was one of those times when everything turns out for the best. That is usually a wonderful sign of things to come, and sure enough, it was. I turned the radio to KKJZ for the short ride home. We held hands and listened to as much of the Cole Porter Hour as we could before getting to my place. We were almost about to turn on to Hermosa Drive, the street where my little garage apartment was, when your Dad said, ‘Hey, whose car is this, anyway? We both laughed and laughed and laughed at that. We were so much into each other, that he hadn’t even noticed that I borrowed a car for our date. It’s my friend Georgia’s. She actually drives a BMW that her parents bought for her for high school graduation. But, she loves to ‘go ghetto’ every now and then, and this is her set of ghetto wheels.”
