Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “I was so giddy with excitement as I flitted about my tiny little efficiency. I was positively exuberant at the wonderful turn of events of the day. My heart was over – flowing! It was a beautiful night, a magical night. I could hear the crickets singing outside my window and a stirring deep inside if me. The radio was playing softly in the background. I was listening to KKJZ, my favorite station of all – time. They were hosting a “Ladies of Jazz Hour” so I spend the evening in preparation listening to Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, all of the greats, really. It was such a perfect backdrop for me to prepare for this very, very special evening with your Dad. I definitely had a song in my heart and flitted about my little garage apartment. Life was good and I felt so blessed. So all I had to do was light a bunch of candles, arrange the flowers and set the table. I didn’t have any of the nice linens that I do now, but you know what I did have? I had a gorgeous floral wrap that matched the flower arrangement, and, a pair of matching kerchiefs for cloth napkins. I used two pretty, expandable, faux pearl bracelets as napkin rings. I also had some sparkly little baubles from a leftover project. I scattered those about the table. I put the champagne on ice in an adorable galvanized bucket with a floral motif and the table was set.”
