Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “But then I realized it was Valentine’s and the place was probably jam packed! This was THE quintessential day for love. There was so much hustle and bustle you’d think it was Christmas! Of course, Valentine’s Day didn’t have near the advance billing as Christmas, but they vibe was a very intense one. It was the number on date to get engaged, and that kind of love tension, or sexual tension, or whatever you want to call it, could weigh heavy on a person. Talk about a lot of pressure! And, I knew that every restaurant, regardless of the price of the items on the menu, would be packed to the gills with lovers, boyfriends, girlfriends and husbands and wives. That thought made me pause. I wasn’t thinking marriage, but the thought did strike me, IF your dad and I were to marry, I would have a hard time referring to him as my husband, he seemed too much like a wife! Then my thoughts turned to him, slaving away in the diner…Heck, we were going to be lucky to get out of there at eleven, let alone at ten! Boy, was I ever right. I sat in the parking lot, happy I didn’t make cesar salad or prime rib, watching your sweet Dad scamper about the diner. They had opted to stay open an hour later due to the holiday, and since we were all starving students and artists, so to speak, any chance we had to make a little extra cash, we took it!”
