Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “I had a feeling deep in my heart that Dottie and Mabel, and, your Dad and I would be fast friends. Thinking back about Grandma and Grandpa had made me wistful, and more than a little blue for them. I couldn’t believe that I had made such a sweet friend. She seemed like such a gentle soul, such a good and kind person, so balanced and true. I yearned for someone in my life like that again. Ever since your Grandma and Grandpa passed, I have to tell you it has been rough feeling alone in the world. Oh I know I have you, and you are so special to me, my pretty sissy, but, sometimes you want someone older and wiser, telling you what to do, where to go, how to handle things. It made me happy to have helped someone so wise and intuitive. Then I realized, we really helped each other. Which really, is even better. I knew I had to work quickly, as the shadows were long and the afternoon air was growing crisp. Thankfully, since I had just been there, I knew my way around very well. Since it was Valentine’s Day evening, some of the vendors naturally were already closing up shop. I worried I wouldn’t be able to get everything I needed! But, there is something about seeing a ruddy complected, breathless and tousled young girl carrying an armful of flowers that would melt even the coldest person’s heart. ”
