Mommy continued telling the Valentine’s Day story. “First I went to the butcher, Mr. Wainwright. We had men briefly while I was purchasing a selection of beef for Dottie and Mabel’s special Valentine’s Day Feast. He was so kind and helpful, and I noticed he didn’t have a wedding ring on his finger. I figured him to be about 70 or so. He had such kind eyes, and he seemed to really enjoy my excitement and enthusiasm. I asked him for two very generous rib eye steaks with the bone in. Your Dad had confessed that as girlie as he was, he still loved a good steak! Mr. Wainwright must have seen the little moth hole in the shoulder of my sweater, and, he knew that I arrived at the market on foot, so he gave me a really sweet deal of the meat. When I looked at him quizzically, he brushed it off saying, ‘Girl, you’d better whip that up tonight, I was going to feed to my dog, Buster tomorrow, it’s almost past it’s due! Even though he made up some excuse for giving me a really killer deal, I thanked him profusely and then I smiled and waved and was off to the other vendors before they closed. I begged and pleaded and thanks to Dottie, even had a little extra to tip those less – than – willing to remain open just a few moments longer for a girl in distress. Finally, I had everything I need to make a really nice meal for your Dad and me. ”
